Volunteers erect first wall at second Habitat home in Petal | News
PETAL, MS (WDAM)- Construction has begun on another Habitat for Humanity home in Petal.
The home will be one of five located on McInnis Street and will be the 60th Habitat home built in the Hattiesburg and Petal areas.
When complete the home will go to Navy veteran Danial Litland. Litland has completed about 430 of the 450 required sweat equity hours with Habitat. All prospective Habitat homeowners must meet three criteria to qualify for a home. They must have a need for housing, have the ability to pay for the home, and have the willingness to partner with Habitat to build their home and the homes of others.
Volunteers from Camp Shelby, the Maccrfrey All State Agency of Hattiesburg, and Lady Golden Eagles basketball team all pitched in to construct, then raise the first wall Tuesday morning.
The first of the Habitat homes on MnInnis Street is nearly complete. All five are expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
