Hattiesburg Habitat to Dedicate very first home in Petal | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Characters)
On October 14, Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity will hold a house dedication for their very first home built in the City of Petal. The dedication will start at 3pm and the Public is invited to attend this celebration. Habitat holds a dedication celebration to mark the end of construction just before the family purchases their home from Habitat for Humanity. This house will be home to Valerie Wilbert and her three children.
This house was built in partnership with Southern Mississippi Trading, Wells Fargo, Walgreens, Allstate, and several other community partners. In addition to local volunteers, Habitat hosted volunteers from North Central College in Illinois as part of the Collegiate Challenge program with Habitat for Humanity International. Valerie is the single mom of three busy little girls. They currently live in a rental home in an unsafe neighborhood where her girls are not allowed to play outside.
Valerie works full time but could not qualify for a mortgage from a bank because of her income. Once she purchases her home from Habitat for Humanity, her monthly mortgage payments will help build more homes for more families. Her family has been a Habitat partner since 2009 and they have earned 474 sweat equity hours. She and her girls cannot wait to call their house on McInnis St. in Petal “Home.”
Please join us on Sunday, October 14th at 3pm to celebrate this accomplishment with the Wilbert family. If you or someone you know would like to make a donation of materials or services to Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity, please contact Lee Anne Venable, Resource Development Manager at 601-582-4663 ext. 17 or lvenable@hattiesburghabitat.org. About Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity
Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit housing organization committed to assisting families in need by providing the life-changing opportunity of having simple, decent affordable housing in partnership with a team of enthusiastic volunteers and staff guided by Christian values. Since 1990, our ministry has provided a hand-up, not a hand-out to families in the Hattiesburg Area. Habitat volunteers build and repair houses in partnership with low-income families. Upon completion, the families repay the cost of services through ZERO interest loans and at no profit to Hattiesburg Area Habitat. For more information about how to get involved, visit www.hattiesburghabitat.org or call the Habitat office at 601-582-4663.Top Petal Stories
